Day Two: Melbourne International Animation Festival

21 Jun

Having a great time in Melbourne. Festival Director Malcolm Turner and his partner Festival Manager Helen Gibbins are showing me a fantastic time. Melbourne is a really beautiful and busy city, with lots of interesting architecture.

It’s been so busy that I’ve only managed to take a few shots of the area around the Festival site at Federation Square.IMG_0567 IMG_0568

Yesterday I was at the Render Conference where there were panels and presentations on the Art and Business of Animation. Topics included: making animated music videos, the state of animation, alternative venues for animation and a keynote address by Japanese animator Koji Yamamura on the Animation Program he runs at Tokyo University of the Arts. The day concluded with a screening of animation by graduating students from this University.

I met a lot of Professors of Animation, more on that later. Today: more Render Conference.
